Thank you for presenting your work! What is the furthest distance from the plant you are able to measure these Cs-bearing microparticles in the ocean? Are these microparticles easily transported, or do you expect them to sink out of the water column?

Thank you very much for your comment.
The furthest distance from the plant is about 20 km (north-east direction) where we collected marine sediment. The sediment included Cs-bearing microparticles emitted from Unit 3 of the plant and the diameter of the particle is around 10-100 µm. These particles can be deposited (sink out) easily because of their large size. This result is shown in Kubo et al. (2020).

In contrast, we found some Cs-bearing microparticles emitted from Unit 2 of the Power Plant (Type-A particle) from the suspended particles in the ocean, which is about 1 µm in size.
Our calculation shows that these Type-A particles can be easily transported because of their small size and density. This result is shown in Miura et al. (2021).

Coincidentally, this paper (Miura et al. (2021)) is scheduled to be published today, March 11, so you can read it if you are interested. It is open access.

      Thank you.
